Huge start for 'Ready' ensures another 100 crores grosser for Salman

As mentioned in this column last week, ‘Ready’ took a humongous start even though it did fall short of ‘Dabangg’ opening weekend record (something that was always predicted). Nevertheless, a 40 crores weekend was still a little above expectations and that means that now ‘Ready’ is pretty much aiming at a ‘super-hit’ tag for itself.

The film opened huge on Friday and though the media reviews were mixed with most of them falling in the ‘below average’ category, audience reaction was just the opposite with reports being above average to excellent. Were there murmurs, heart aches, heart burns and negativity? Oh, of course yes. There were a few out there who were ‘disappointed’, ‘appalled’, ‘peeved’ or ‘suffering from massive headaches’. Well, let the fact be stated, these were the people who were from ‘within the industry’ and not ‘aam junta’.

As it happens around the release of every big film, negative reactions are spread out in hundreds and an attempt was made to pull down ‘Ready’ as well. The ‘camp’ business was pretty much evident and those who weren’t too fond of the kind of response that this Anees Bazmee-Salman Khan film was seeing for itself were busy spreading rumors.

However as it happens in case of films which are accepted whole heartedly, ‘Ready’ too managed to stand like a rock and after consistent collections on Friday and Saturday, it sky rocketed further to see complete domination on Sunday, hence ensuring that most of the negative voices were curbed. With the collections continuing to be excellent on Monday as well, it was death kneel for those who were none too pleased with the film turning out to be hugely successful. Sad for them because ‘Ready’ is now the biggest success of the year and is all set to cross the 100 crores mark for a Salman starrer after ‘Dabangg’.

All of this means that while Salman will now have ‘Ready’ following the super success of ‘Dabangg’, even Anees Bazmee can leave the disappointment of ‘No Problem’ behind and celebrate being the only director in the current times to have two super hits crossing the 70 crores mark (Singh Is Kinng, Welcome) and two films touching the 50 crores mark (No Entry, Thank You).
