Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
“Never forgive and never forget”, yes, this is the punch line of the latest film by Tim Burton called “Sweeney Todd“. This movie stars one of the best Hollywood actors, Johnny Depp. Sweeney Todd happens to be the fictional hero or rather antihero of the film. His series of killings involve only one main weapon – a razor. He cuts the throats of his victims with this one weapon and is shown to drink their blood. His friend, the character named Mrs.Lovette who is also his confident more than a lover, prepares dishes out of the meat of all those victims and serves it to all the other friends present at the venue. There is also a servant named Tobias who assists him in all his crimes almost all the times.
The first thing that is noticed about the movie is that Sweeney Todd has a motive in life which is larger than greed. It’s pure revenge. Sweeney Todd is originally the barber named Benjamin Barker who is very wrongly placed behind the bars. After fifteen years, the same barber returns with the name of Sweeney Todd. He comes to London looking for his wife. The most enchanted moment of the film comes by when Sweeney discovers that the same judge who sentenced him to jail had raped and killed his young wife that he left behind. That was the moment that he swears to kill everyone concerned and then begins his saga of revengeful life.
This revenge brings him in front of a lot of obstacles and he begins to slash off the throats of all those customers that come to him. The real tale depicts the murder of almost 160 such customers that come to his barber shop. Being the most awaited film this Christmas, it is surely going to bring a great thrill to all its viewers. The film is all set to release on the 21st of December all across theatres in United States and is set for release on 25th January in United Kingdom.
